Batopilas, Chihuahua, Mexico - Copper Canyon
Very haunting video of the Copper Canyon, Chihuahua, Mexico. Home of the Rarámuri, translates to english as the running people. Batopilas is a quaint little town right in the heart of the Copper Canyon, as of recent the area has witnessed a large increase in violence caused mainly by drug barons who use the remoteness of the canyons as place to grow cannabis and opium. The Rarámuri, a traditionally nomadic group of people are gradually being pushed of their land by the drug cartels whom often force these people to work on their drug plantations for an absolute pittance, sometimes they are even payed in crates of beer. The Rarámuri are also incredible long distance runners whom can cover from 50 to 100 km up and down steep canyon trails in the space of three days.... kicking a wooden ball.... no, that's not a joke. There have been several recent books on the the super human powers of these people, most notably 'Born to Run' by Christopher McDougall. Also check out mark-brady.net for more info.
